DJ moniker: Screaming Banshee
Born: Originally, I was born in Biloix Mississippi. I don't know anything about it, don't want to know anything about it. My father was in the military , so we moved around alot. Probley why I like to travel alot. Marysville, Califonia was the next stop. Denver Colorado, New Mexico, Edwards AFB California (where Mariah Carey filmed one of her resent videos). Moved here in 1979 and I've been here since.
Years as a DJ: It's been 20 years in November of '99.
Music I spin at a club: I almost don't like to use the word house any more because it's used so much. What I mean is there are so many strains of house now that it seams like every thing about it is lost, way too board. So I call the music I spin Nocturnal Vinyl. It sounds like goth, but it's a far cry from that. But if you want me to be specific, house, vocal house, jazz house, hard house and trance if the mood hits me. Some old house that still sounds good. If I happen to play Linda's Tavern, I'll play anything under the sun. From the 5th Dimension to Roni Size.
Favorite labels and titles (and what I wouldn't play): I can't segregate what I like, but some that stand out include MAW, Deep Dish, Yoshitoshi, Naked Music, Wave, and all those white labels if they happen to be real jewels. I have way too many favorite titles and they are always changing. Some things will stay the same because they are glued to me, but my tastes are always evolving. I'd never play Cher or Whitney Houston, unless their vocals are fucked up or not on it at all. Normally, I wouldn't because the mixes are usually horrible. I could get away with playing Debbie Gibson because Masters At Work made it ok to.
Where I get my vinyl: I don't shop too much in Seattle because I can't get everything here. I can't give away all my secrets, so I'll say that I shop somewhere in New York. They get things for me that may not get released. Plus, imports, independent or domestic labels that may not even see the light of day in Seattle.
Places I've spun at: When I was kicked out of my fathers place(long story), I ended up at the funky place called Dine On The Green, which turned into the Gorilla Room (a punk place, one of the first maybe). That was also the first place I had beer bottles thrown at me. Later on I ended up playing at the Vogue when it was still on BellTown, six years ago. When It was time to move on , I played at the tugs when it was on Capital Hill and the Detour before it was sold off. The Weathered Wall, Lots of Parties. I was guess DJ at Aero Space and Linda Tavern. I've spun in Canada for a party. Id like to do that again. They like to have a good time. The CatWalk for morning madness.
Clubs I frequent: Right now I don't frequent anywhere in particular. The Shelter in New York and almost anyplace that will play divine house. Aristocrats in Seattle could really blow up. It's just a matter of time.
My influences: I wouldn't admit it too much, but Ross Bostwick was the one that turned me on to house. It took me a while, but I relented. He helped make house a home here. In fact, he turned me on to a lot of music when we were playing together. Definitely, he was my partner in crime for 13 years. He turned me on to Masters At Work, who keep getting better and better. They are a huge influence on me, musically.
